It’s no secret that ecommerce is highly susceptible to fraud. Now, more than ever, with the adoption of fraud-resistant chip card technology for card-present transactions in the United States, it is anticipated that online fraud will increase. Chip cards are going to make it harder for thieves to commit fraud in person, and they will be shifting their attention to online merchants. Fraudsters look for vulnerabilities, and regardless of a merchant’s size, they take advantage of any available loopholes and easy targets. In order to combat the increase in online fraud, a new process – among many other options – known as tokenization, is being implemented. This means that each time an online transaction occurs, a unique code, or token, is created. This “token” will then verity the validity of the transaction and will keep soft data from being stored online in the first place, thus eliminating the likelihood of online breaches.
